TIRS-2 is designed by NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.ĭata acquired by Landsat 9 is processed into the Landsat Collection 2 inventory structure in the Worldwide Reference System-2 (WRS-2) path/row system, with swath overlap (or sidelap) varying from 7 percent at the Equator to a maximum of approximately 85 percent at extreme latitudes. TIRS-2 provides an internal blackbody calibration source as well as space view capabilities. TIRS-2 provides two spectral bands with a maximum ground sampling distance, both in-track and cross track, of 100 m (328 ft) for both bands. Landsat 9’s Thermal Infrared Sensor 2 (TIRS-2) measures thermal radiance emitted from the land surface in two thermal infrared bands using the same technology that was used for TIRS on Landsat 8, however TIRS-2 is an improved version of Landsat 8’s TIRS, both with regards to instrument risk class and design to minimize stray light. Band 1 Visible Coastal Aerosol (0.43 - 0.45 µm) 30-m.OLI-2 is designed by Ball Aerospace in Boulder, Colorado. OLI-2 provides both internal calibration sources to ensure radiometric accuracy and stability, as well as the ability to perform solar and lunar calibrations. OLI-2 will provide data for nine spectral bands with a maximum ground sampling distance (GSD), both in-track and cross track, of 30-meters(m) (98 feet) for all bands except the panchromatic band, which has a 15-meter (49 feet) GSD. The OLI-2 design is a copy of Landsat 8’s OLI, and provides imagery consistent with previous Landsat spectral, spatial, radiometric and geometric qualities. In addition to the OLI-2 improvement, TIRS-2 has significantly reduced stray light compared to the Landsat 8 Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS) which enables improved atmospheric correction and more accurate surface temperature measurements. In comparison, Landsat 8 provides 12-bit data and 4,096 shades, and Landsat 7 detects only 256 shades with its 8-bit resolution. With the higher radiometric resolution, Landsat 9 can differentiate 16,384 shades of a given wavelength. Landsat 9 improvements include higher radiometric resolution for OLI-2 (14-bit quantization increased from 12-bits for Landsat 8) allowing sensors to detect more subtle differences, especially over darker areas such as water or dense forests. Both OLI and TIRS have a 5-year mission design life, although the spacecraft has 10+ years of consumables. The OLI–2 captures observations of the Earth’s surface in visible, near-infrared, and shortwave-infrared bands, and TIRS-2 measures thermal infrared radiation, or heat, emitted from the Earth’s surface. The satellite carries two science instruments, the Operational Land Imager 2 (OLI-2) and the Thermal Infrared Sensor 2 (TIRS-2). The instruments onboard Landsat 9 are improved replicas of those currently collecting data onboard Landsat 8, which are already providing data that is radiometrically and geometrically superior than instruments on previous generation Landsat satellites. Northrop Grumman designed and fabricated the spacecraft and integrated the two instruments. Landsat 9 carries the Operational Land Imager 2 (OLI–2), built by Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corporation, Boulder, Colorado, and the Thermal Infrared Sensor 2 (TIRS–2), built at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Maryland. Unlike its well-known personal finance sibling Quicken, Simplifi began life as a web-first service, and its graphical look and feel reflect that history. The service handles account tracking across banks, investments, and credit cards and payment services, and combines this with spending and savings plans, bill alerts, and trends analysis of your spending, income, savings, and more. Whereas Quicken is a full-scale personal financial package with desktop applications and online/mobile support, Simplifi pares things back to basics, and it does so with a fresh, visually appealing interface and logical workflow to tracking accounts, setting savings goals, and creating budgets. Now owned by Aquiline Capital Partners, Simplifi comes from the same stewards of long-time stalwart Quicken. This cloud-based service makes it easy to track your money and budget wherever you are. So the interesting thing is, I asked if they ever changed the word arsenokoitai to homosexual in modern translations. Knabenschander is also in 1 Timothy 1:10. This word “boy molesters” for the most part carried through the next several centuries of German Bible translations. My friend is reading through it for me and he says, “Ed, this says the same thing!” They use the word knabenschander. I then grabbed my facsimile copy of Martin Luther’s original German translation from 1534. In the English where it says “Man shall not lie with man, for it is an abomination,” the German version says “Man shall not lie with young boys as he does with a woman, for it is an abomination.” I said, “What?! Are you sure?” He said, “Yes!” Then we went to Leviticus 20:13- same thing, “Young boys.” So we went to 1 Corinthians to see how they translated arsenokoitai (original Greek word) and instead of homosexuals it said, “Boy molesters will not inherit the kingdom of God.” So we went to Leviticus 18:22 and he’s translating it for me word for word. Now I’ve got most European major languages that I’ve collected over time. Anyway, I had a German friend come back to town and I asked if he could help me with some passages in one of my German Bibles from the 1800s. So I started collecting old Bibles in French, German, Irish, Gaelic, Czechoslovakian, Polish… you name it. So before figuring out why they decided to use that word in the RSV translation (which is outlined in my upcoming book with Kathy Baldock, Forging a Sacred Weapon: How the Bible Became Anti-Gay) I wanted to see how other cultures and translations treated the same verses when they were translated during the Reformation 500 years ago. It first showed up in the RSV translation. You have been part of a research team that is seeking to understand how the decision was made to put the word homosexual in the bible. We got to sit down with Ed Oxford at his home in Long Beach, California and talk about this question. The word “arsenokoitai” shows up in two different verses in the bible, but it was not translated to mean “homosexual” until 1946. EHM has a pretty large database allowing you to manage/coach in many different countries and leagues around the world, each with their own rules & setup. I’ll also be writing from the perspective of an NHL team. We’ll start with the initial stages of game play (ie: before I press continue), work through things like tactics, practice, scouting, drafting, trading and, ultimately, how to win. So this article will serve as a way to introduce new/beginner players to EHM by demonstrating how I play it. In addition to my EHM experience, I’m also a hockey-tragic and actually work in the game (in a volunteer capacity) here in Australia so I like to think I know a fair bit about the sport as well. Whilst is a fantastic resource, some of their content can be quite intimidating for a beginner or someone not that familiar with hockey. While my twitter notifications were melting down as the three of us chatted, I realised that there was probably a need for an introduction piece to help new players get acquainted with the game. So I think I know a little bit about the game! In fact, I was one of the original moderators and content producers at SortItOutSI ( for the EHM series. I’ve been an EHM player since the game was freeware and Risto Remes was still an independent (he now works at SI) and have purchased each version as they’ve come out since 2005. The boys are fairly fresh to the game, having picked it up 12 months ago when it was re-released by the company as an Early Access edition, so they had a few questions about bits and pieces. Hopefully, like me, you’ll find this guide useful if you’re new to the game or are wanting to try it but don’t really get hockey.Ĭleon, Andy and I have been chatting recently about Sports Interactive’s returning ice hockey management game, EHM 1 (Eastside Hockey Manager, formerly NHL:EHM & EHM:EA). However, it’s worth noting that there are many different noises cicadas can make, even if they do sound similar to our ears. These males will attract mates by “singing” or vibrating the air around them, eliciting the common noise we hear from cicadas every summer in the process. Most of the time, male cicadas will spend all of their time in trees looking for potential mates. They have shed their former exoskeleton, they have emerged from brooding underground, and now they are ready to find their mates. Once a cicada enters their third and final life cycle stage, they are fully adult creatures. Once they’ve formed this new adult body, they’re ready for the next phase of their life. Therefore, the nymph stage mainly consists of a cicada reemerging after brooding underground for however many years, then forming their new adult body and shedding their old exoskeleton. Once they’ve freed themselves of their old skin, cicadas are able to grow their adult skin, which hardens and allows their wings to inflate with fluid! The nymph stage is also the time when cicadas shed their exoskeleton as they reemerge from the ground. You may also like: 12 Common Spiders in Connecticut (With Pictures) cicada exoskeleton Scientists have suggested that this may have to do with the broods avoiding predators. Not much is known as to why cicadas wait until the soil thaws (at about 65 degrees Fahrenheit). This is why you tend to only see or hear cicadas in the summer. Keep reading below to see the brood map for all 15 broods of cicadas found in the United States.įor the most part, when the ground begins to thaw, cicadas will reemerge if they’re ready. However, all cicadas tend to wait for the weather and soil to be just right before they reemerge into the world. Periodical cicadas actually emerge from the ground together as a brood. When a cicada is ready to return above ground, they have entered their second phase of their life cycle, the nymph stage. Annual and periodical cicadas build tunnels and feed during this phase of their life cycle underground! 2. Many initially thought that during this stage cicadas were basically dormant or hibernating while underground. As a result, annual cicadas will always be around, as some cicadas will emerge every summer! However, there are many cicada species that have various developmental time frames, and many species have overlapping brood life cycles. Remember, there are 3,000 types! Some cicadas will only burrow underground for two years, whereas others (periodical cicadas) will burrow underground for either 13 or 17 years.Īn annual cicada tends to live for only about two to five years, so they won’t be underground for nearly as long as a periodical cicada will. The developmental period of a cicada can vary, depending on each different species. Once they’ve dug underground, they tend to stay there for their entire developmental period. Normally, these eggs can be found in branches and twigs.Īfter about six to eight weeks, a cicada egg is ready to hatch! Once they hatch, cicadas almost immediately make their way underground and dig down to find plant roots to suck liquid from. Female cicadas can lay up to 400 eggs at a time, all put in many different areas. The first stage of a cicada’s life cycle is their egg phase. On the other hand, periodical cicadas are unique to the central and eastern areas of the United States. Geographically speaking, annual cicadas can be found throughout the world in many different areas and climates. Annual and periodical cicadas have similar life cycles, though there are a few differences. The cicada goes through 3 stages of life: egg, nymph, and adult. In this article we’ll learn more about why cicadas live underground for so long, as well as the 3 stages of their life cycle! 3 stages of the cicada life cycle Periodical cicadas however, will spend many years underground preparing to emerge and begin the next stage in the cicada life cycle. As the name may suggest, annual cicadas are spotted every year. There are more than 3,000 cicada species, all of which can be separated into two categories: annual cicadas and periodical cicadas. These invertebrates that have captured the fascination of many cultures for thousands of years are incredibly unique creatures. While this feature may not be a value-add for everyone, it is one that's hard to determine you'd actually want it, or not, without using it for a bit. Either way, you can quickly access the door's storage bins without completely opening the door and letting a bunch of cold air escape. They can be opened together, or separately. If you haven't seen it before, this means the right-hand door actually consists of two parts: the external door and an internal one. While this LG fridge doesn't have the brand's signature InstaView window like the LRMVS3006S, the LRFDC2406S does feature a door-in-door design. The increasingly-popular door-in-door design allows even easier access to the most commonly-used items in your fridge. Door-in-door design offers quick and easy access In addition to spherical ice, the fridge also makes cubed and crushed ice at an average pace. However, spherical ice takes a lot of time and energy to make-during testing we found the LG LRFDC2406S can make about three spheres per day, though a recent Craft Ice+ update promises to double this rate. Ice with a non-spherical shape will indeed make your drink colder, faster, but this also means you'll have a frigid first few sips followed by increasingly diluted and ever-warming dregs. After all, spherical ice has the lowest possible surface area, which means it’s slower to melt, cooling a whiskey on the rocks for longer without watering it down. It produces gorgeous globes of ice any bartender would covet for their cocktails. The LRFDC2406S is yet another entry to LG's exclusive collection of fridges that can create spherical ice-although the appliance brand plans to offer its Craft Ice system in more than 30 SKUs in 2021. If you're looking for the spherical Craft Ice, it has a dedicated bin down in the freezer drawer. The freezer provides lots of ice options-including spheres If you want to get the most out of your perishables, this is the fridge for the job. In both its refrigerator and freezer compartments, temperatures tested within 1☏ of where they ideally should be and only wavered by a fraction of a degree during normal use and defrost cycles. We recently tested the LRMVS3006S, LG's other Craft Ice fridge in our lab, and in this regard it stumbled, but LG's LRFDC2406S does not. Given that temperature fluctuations occur due to cooling cycles and the door being opened during normal use, a fridge has to respond quickly and accurately to keep everything within this 8☏ range.
